The movement for women's rights including political, social, and economic status, has been a part of American history since the Revolution. As early as the 1920s, advocates proposed an amendment guaranteeing equality opportunities for women. The ERA amendment was passed by 35 states but needed 38 for ratification and stalled. Under pressure Congress extended the deadline but the amendment never passed. Why, Who, or What kept this amendment from being ratified?

Using discussion and primary documents, Professor Vegter will facilitate the conversation instead of lecturing. Registrants are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions.
