This seminar is the second in a series of online discussion-based seminars on slavery in the United States. Each will focus a theme related to slavery and its enduring legacy - all stemming from the system’s characteristics in the United States. The primary sources used in this series draw from Teaching American History’s Core Document Collection: Slavery and Its Consequences. Session Two will focus on Slavery: Constitutional, Legal and Political Issues – from the Missouri Compromise to the 20th century.
Each book in our Core Document Collection contains original sources related to a theme, an introduction authored by the scholar curating the book, study questions for each document, and additional resources to help students and teachers deepen their understanding of the topic.
